The SEC issued new rules on external power sources used in computers, tablets and phones

SEC Resolution No.33811 on 2020-12-21 approved Protocolo PE N°8/10:2020 for External power sources for Computers (including Desktop and Laptop), Tablets, and Mobile phone chargers, accepting testing standard refer to IEC 62368-1:2014 or IEC 62368-1:2018 for SEC marking certification. This Protocol will come into force on 2022-01-01.


Under following situations, External power sources are enforced to get SEC certification:

• As accessory or repair parts sold with computers/tablet/mobile phone, or being sold individually

• Being sold with connection wires or sold individually

• External power sources for other products (ie. Camera, GPS, Speakers, Routers…) that could also be used on computers/tablet/mobile phone

• No other specific purpose but could also be used on computers/tablet/mobile phone


Remarks:

• Current Protocols for External power sources refer to testing standard IEC 60950-1 are still valid - PE N°8/08:2016 (for mobile phone charges, enforced 2018-09-30) and PE N°8/9:2019 (for Computer, enforced 2021-09-01), until being replaced by new PE N°8/10:2020.

• Chargers for Tablet should come with new PE N°8/10:2020, 2022-01-01.
