Brazil's ANATEL has made significant updates to its RF equipment regulations, aligning several technical specifications with international standards.

Brazil's National Telecommunications Authority (ANATEL) recently officially released Law No. 14158, which makes a series of important revisions to the technical specifications and testing procedures for existing radio frequency (RF) equipment. This update aims to promote the integration of Brazilian technical standards with mainstream global practices, covering key areas such as vehicle radar, wireless audio, millimeter-wave communications, and next-generation Wi-Fi. The new regulations will officially take effect on April 6, 2026. During the transition period, existing standards can still be used, but ANATEL recommends that all relevant parties begin product certification and compliance work in accordance with the new regulations as soon as possible.

Key technical specification updates are as follows:

1. New Equipment Categories and Definitions:

The definition of vehicle radar systems (covering all land and water vehicles) has been clarified, and new technical specifications for wireless audio systems in the 54–608 MHz band have been added, referencing the ETSI EN 300 422-1 standard, achieving technical unification in this field.

2. Opening of High-Frequency Applications:

A new regulatory framework has been added for the 116–246 GHz band, establishing clear power limits, measurement bandwidth, and usage restrictions (e.g., prohibition of aircraft and satellite use) for fixed point-to-point links and backhaul applications above 100 GHz. Radar use is permitted in airport areas and by ground-based aircraft.

3. Comprehensive Adjustment of 5 GHz Band Rules:

Rules for the 5.15–5.925 GHz band (UNII band) have been systematically revised to fully align with international standards (ETSI/FCC). Updates include detailed power requirements for different equipment types (e.g., access points, client equipment), the introduction of bandwidth-related power calculation formulas, strengthened out-of-band and spurious radiation control, and an increase in the dynamic range requirement for Transmit Power Control (TPC) from 3 dB to 6 dB.

4. This aims to promote the application of 60 GHz band sensing technology in scenarios such as detection and gesture recognition.

5.
