In October 2018, the 11th edition of the Canadian standard CSA C22.2 No. 113 was released and will replace the current 10th edition. An important information of this update is that CSA C22.2 No. 113 deletes the description and requirements of ceiling fans, desk or table fans, hassock fans, suitcase or “box” fans, pedestal fans, agricultural fans, partition fans, duct fans, and window fans. These deleted products will be verified with a different standard: the fan category will be replaced with CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-80.

Recently, the major NRTL laboratories in North America have announced their updated schedule for the Canadian standard CSA C22.2 No. 113.

UL: from October 1, 2023; ITS: Starting January 1, 2024, CSA C22.2 No. 113 will no longer be used to evaluate the safety of removable fans and ceiling fans. It was replaced by the new standard CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-80.

However, this standard change is not a clean cut form, the major NRTL laboratories have indicated that until the new standard is enforced, the report and certificate (ETL & UL) for models that have been certified based on CSA C22.2 No. 113 will not be allowed to carry out technical changes in design testing and evaluation. However, old reports and certificates will remain valid.

The main differences between the new and old standards are as follows, and the majority of manufacturers should pay attention when sending samples for testing.
