On December 6, 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice on the official website of the interim regulations on the radio management of automotive radars. In order for everyone to have a deeper understanding of the "Interim Regulations on the Radio Management of Automotive Radars" (No. [2021] No. 181 of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), the relevant content is interpreted as follows:

1.In the newly released documents, the following seven points require special attention:

(1) This regulation will come into effect on March 1, 2022，Vehicle radar equipment in the 24.25-26.65 GHz frequency band that has previously met the requirements of micro-power short-range equipment and has been put into use can continue to be used ,also vehicle ranging radar equipment in the 76-77GHz frequency band that has been put into use before November 19, 2019.But no more applications for model approval of vehicle radar radio transmission equipment in the 24.25-26.65 GHz frequency band will be accepted thereafter.

(2) In the previous documents, 24.25-26.65GHz and 76-77GHz were planned as the frequency bands for automotive radar transmission equipment. Now the new document deletes the 24.25-26.65GHz frequency band, expands the 76-77GHz frequency band, and uses the 76-79GHz frequency band as the automotive radar.

(3) Except as otherwise specified by the national radio regulatory agency, the 76-77GHz frequency band cannot be used for other types of land-based radars, nor can it be used for radars loaded on aircraft.

(4) Automotive radar equipment sold and used in the 76-77GHz frequency band in China must comply with the "RF Technical Requirements" in Annex 1 and apply for the type approval of radio transmission equipment from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. There is no need to apply for a radio station license.

(5) Vehicles loaded with automotive radars should be careful not to drive into the interference protection distance of the relevant set up observatories in my country (see Annex 2 for details)

(6) Automobile radar manufacturers should adopt active, passive or digital technology and other interference avoidance measures (see Annex 3 for specific technical measures) to improve the anti-interference ability of automobile radars.

(7) The product manual should explain the limitations of the functions of different autopilot levels realized by the car radar, and formulate the necessary safety operation guidelines.

2. Impact on SRRC certification application for automotive radar transmitting equipment:

The "Regulations" completely remove the automotive radar equipment from the range of micro-power short-range equipment. After that, no matter what function it is, the vehicle-mounted radar transmission equipment needs to obtain the radio transmission equipment model approval before it can be sold and used in China.

In addition, the "Regulations" also specifically mentions the description of the product manual that needs special description. It is expected that in the future, the acceptor of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will pay special attention to the description of the product manual when reviewing SRRC application materials. This may cause a large number of new applications to be reviewed and rejected.
